The first residence took place in Zakynthos (Greece), involving artists from Italy, Greece, Soain, Romania. Zakynthos is a beautiful island in the Ionian Sea, it is a main tourist destination, well-known for its beautiful coastline and verdant landscapes, called by the Venetians \u2018The Flower of Levant\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the island there is a peculiar type of theatre, called Omilias, that began in the 17th century. It was influenced from Cretan theatre as well as Commedia dell\u2019Arte, as Zakynthos was a crossroad between the East and the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is a theatre for the people, which is linked with Carnival celebrations for more than 400 years and deals with everyday life and social issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is still alive and flourishes every year in Carnival time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
